Summary

This is an overview of the position and the job responsibilities listed do not encompass the entire position. The Veterinary Technician is under the direct guidance and supervision of the Veterinarians and management staff. This position requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases; their symptoms, means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care recommendations.


Veterinary Technicians at FAH assist doctors, maintain a high standard of patient care, and maintain much the facility’s operating conditions such as inventory and cleaning. 


Tasks include:

  • Performing or assisting with patient exams, treatments, surgeries, vaccinations, and euthanasia
  • Collecting samples
  • Filling prescriptions
  • Performing in-house lab work
  • Preparing patient care areas
  • Client education
  • Our vet techs also assist with receptionist tasks if needed

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administrative activities related to providing high quality patient care and client service.
  • Discretionary activities that serve to support effective business operations.
  • Adherence to veterinary and reception protocols.
  • Compliance with completion and accuracy of patient records, treatment sheets, lab sheets, radiology logs, laboratory logs, etc.
  • Follow proper housekeeping procedures for technician and reception areas.
  • Communicate well and effectively with all team members.

Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED. Prefer AS or BS in Animal Health Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Veterinary Technician with at least four (4) years’ experience in either a general or emergency/specialty veterinary practice
  • Excellent organization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Is flexible and adaptable; able to keep composure and focus with changing priorities
  • Highly confidential, trustworthy, and able to follow up and follow through with commitments
  • Has a positive, energetic, and upbeat personality
  • Self-directed, motivated, and organized
  • Accountable, punctual, and dependable
  • Takes initiative and able to manage time well
  • Provide and receive constructive feedback from others
  • Attention to detail and thorough with all work assignments
  • Is able to be flexible with work schedules to fit business needs.

Occupational Hazards


May be exposed to hazards such as:

  • Medical, chemical, biological, and normal pet waste
  • Loud noises
  • Bites and scratches
  • Sharp tools and instruments
  • X-ray equipment (protective measures are provided)
